Virbac’s Bovigen® Scour - Now 1-shot

Virbac is pleased to announce that their calf scour vaccine “Bovigen Scour” has recently been approved for single-shot use in cows and heifers. Given 12-3 weeks pre-calving to increase the antibody levels in colostrum, it protects calves against rotavirus, coronavirus and E. coli F5 (K99). It’s the first and only single-shot scour vaccine to be approved in Europe in more than 18 years.

Virbac has worked closely with the UK’s veterinary profession to ensure Bovigen Scour performs well under UK conditions. Dr Rosie Reyneke, Farm Animal Product Manager for Virbac UK explained “2018 marks 50 years of Virbac working in partnership with vets and farmers around the world, and in following our traditions, we have engaged a number of prominent dairy and beef vet practices to test the vaccine, from John O’Groats in the north to Land’s End in the south. We wanted to be absolutely sure our vaccine meets the highest possible expectations of farmers across the UK”.

UK farm vet Den Leonard, from Lambert Leonard and May, a well-known and long established farm animal practice based in Whitchurch who have a keen interest in young calf care, has been involved in the project for over a year. Den said “Virbac asked us, along with a number of other well-known dairy and beef practices around the UK, to give the product a go, and we’ve been pleased with what we’ve seen”.

The packaging for Bovigen Scour has been modernised to incorporate these new changes to the licence and is available now in the market.
